This crisis management exercise included crisis management staff and representatives of other entities that would be involved in handling this type of situation at the level of the Capital City of Prague.
The subject of the BLACKOUT 2014 exercise was to test out the response to an extensive power blackout in the Prague area and to verify the ability of the respective entities to respond and to do so in a timely and effective manner. The results of the exercise included the following:
On Wednesday, February 26, 2014, the Prague City Council conducted an exercise to gauge the City’s readiness to deal with a power blackout. T-SOFT provided software experts and technicians to help visualize blackout consequences and possible solutions during the simulation. Throughout the exercise, the Mayor of Prague, Tomáš Hudeček, and other members of the Crisis Staff were provided with software tools to help them in their understanding and management of the crisis.
The overall simulation solution made use of the Practis system with Situnet software used for the visualization of the current status of the event. The decisions of the Crisis Staff were immediately visible on a background map of the city. Integral to the exercise was the providing of reliable information on the unfolding power blackout to both Crisis Staff, the media and the general public. This was done on a priority notification basis on the website www.cviceniblackout.cz . The output of the various software systems used were collected to produce a final report on the exercise.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the local administration, Integrated Emergency System, National Park České Švýcarsko and Ministry of Interior. The goal of the workshop was to inform attendants with the situation in the locality Hřensko, methodology and means of measuring of the rock massif movement including design of the information system which is currently being developer.
Together with the other partners T-SOFT presented new trends in visualization of information for the first responders, e.g. at fires with worsened conditions for visibility (sophisticated systems utilizing infrared cameras, radar etc.).
T-SOFT traditionally participates in the annually held conference of the international organization TIEMS which was held this year in Erbil (Iraq). In regards to the previous activities and experiences T-SOFT was asked to lead the training seminar with the topic – modeling of terroristic attacks, where we could present our products which are – besides others – used by universities in CR and through them for education of new crisis managers.
